Versatile and easy to install; keep your lap cat AND switch on the fireplace!

This was a "lazy" purchase. My 1990s-era gas fireplace is mostly decorative, with a convenient wall switch just next to it. But has any fireplace owner knows, you only want to turn on the fire once you are already cuddled down on the couch with someone you don't want to disturb, like your pets or your sweetie. At that point, getting up to flip a switch feels too hard. This remote kit was the solution to a problem I didn't strictly need to solve, though I’m very glad I did.The Most Versatile OptionI chose this model specifically for its versatility, as it can be installed in the cavity beneath the fireplace or mounted in a standard wall gang box and made to look pretty, and allows a choice of batteries or wall power.Installation: Plan vs. Reality* The Plan: I intended to use the included DC power adapter with the outlet under the fireplace, figuring I could fish the wire up to the existing wall switch.* The Reality: The wires from the fireplace to the wall switch take a "scenic route" that precludes pulling them backward through with a fish tape, and I was not in the mood to tear into drywall.* The Pivot: Because this unit also runs on 4 AA batteries, I was able to simply pop the batteries into the receiver box, swap it directly in place of the old wall switch, attach the white faceplate, and screw it in. The whole process took 15 minutes. It’s a huge plus that the kit supports both power methods.Functions:* Manual: The simplest use case is to press the remote's on/off buttons when you need them. Easy peasy.* Automatic: The remote can be programmed to cycle the fireplace similar to central heating, based on the ambient temperature. Because my fireplace is decorative and inefficient, I have no need for this feature and have not tested it, though it sounds awesome for those with efficient fireplaces who want to heat a small area in favor of the whole-house HVAC.Performance & Accuracy* Syncing: The remote functioned correctly out of the box, avoiding the learn/pairing function as the manual claimed.* Temperature: The thermostat on the remote is critical when using automatic mode, but it may not be accurate. In my testing, the remote’s display read about 1.0-1.5°F higher than my calibrated infrared thermometers. It’s not a dealbreaker, but if you plan to use that mode to keep a room at a specific temp, be ready to adjust your programmed temperatures to account for any inaccuracies.* Simplicity: I love that the screen isn't cluttered. It gives me the room temp and the status without unnecessary fluff.Value & ThoughtsThe price feels a bit steep for what is essentially a remote-controlled relay, especially when compared to generic smart-home gear. From what I can tell, it is priced competitively within the niche world of fireplace millivolt systems—especially considering it includes the AC adapter and the wall-mounting hardware, so I shouldn't knock it on that basis.Pros:* Dual power (AC adapter or batteries).* Dual mounting (hearth floor or wall-switch replacement).* Genuinely "plug and play" out of the box.* Saves you from upsetting needy cats.Cons:* Temperature sensor slightly off (approx +1.5 degrees).* Price feels too high for an impulse buy if you already have a system that's as easy to use as mine was.Bottom Line: If you have a standard millivolt valve and want a 15-minute upgrade that allows you to start a fire from the couch, this is a solid, versatile choice.

Good replacement kit

Our gas fireplace had a skytech remote kit which only way we can turn on our gas log. Our old kit was probably 20 years old and despite new batteries in both pieces this winter we experienced many of issues where it didn't work consistently and we had trouble turning on the gas logs. So we were in market for a good replacement. This replacement kit seems to be identical to what we had with the room temperature remote. This one has one big improvement. It seems that we have option to use an AC adapter instead of having to rely on and replace batteries all of the time. The instructions look clear and it should be a manageable DIY project.

The "New Style" Branded Gas Fireplace Remote Control Kit caught my attention when I came across the listing. I had been making use of just on on/off wall switch with my Millivolt Fireplace system for years and wanted to finally try out something that could provide more versatile functionality. This seemed to have a similar feature set for a competitive price and I was very interested in checking this out. This product comes with a printed manual which provides good information for settings and installation. It will require a small amount of installtion effort, but I feel it is quite straight foward and not too difficult for a DIYer with basic skills.I appreciate that this kit can be set up either directly within your Gas Fireplace Valve Control area (by bypassing any existing wall switch) or by removing a prexisting wall switch and replacing with the remote control receiver module. The wiring is a simple two wire hookup and you will connect your existing two conductor low voltage wiring here. The control box receiver will require 4 "AA" batteries that you supply. One caution... This control box will require a DEEP single gang wall rough-in box and its still a tight fit. Even though I did have a deep box, it was still a tricky fit but it all worked out fine. I just wanted to mention this as this module will definitely not fit in a shallow rough-in wall switch box.I like the handheld remote. Its a good size without being too large with an easy to read backlit LCD display. The backlighting will automatically dim when you are not directly interacting with the remote. You do not necessarily have to set an auto temp adjustments as this will function as a simple on/off remote if you choose. I appreciate the auto countdown timer feature as it offers some peace of mind if you forget to turn the fireplace off. I tested that functionality and it works as expected. In the end, I am very pleased with this device. It is decent product and it has functioned as described. Learning the remote setting functions was a short learning curve, but this product and remote is easy to use and intuitive. At the orginally listing price of $69.99, I feel this is reasonable for what you are getting here. This is just slightly higher than some simpler on/off only controllers I have looked at, but this "New Style" product provides a lot more options and functionality. This is certainly worth considering in my opinion. This met my expectations and I can recommend it.

Simple and easy

Used it to replace an old controller that I didn't have the remote for. Install was very easy, a couple quick connects and a simple pairing process. Very happy with it.

Easy to Install

We bought a secondhand gas fireplace and the remote-control system no longer worked. To replace it we chose The New-Style Gas Fireplace Remote Control Kit. One thing I must say is to check and make sure your fireplace is compatible with this system, because not all fireplaces are. It has a dual-function fireplace remote: it supports simple on/off operation or thermostatic mode for automatic temperature regulation for consistent comfort. Also, there is a built-in countdown timer when in the ON or thermo modes, (must be displayed on the screen). The remote is easy to use, and I must say I like the fact that it has the thermostatic mode to regulate the temperature.Flexible power options: The receiver operates on batteries (AA’s) or plug in power, which is a nice way to reduce long-term costs and extend battery life (eliminating frequent battery replacement). The receiver connects to any standard millivolt gas valve system (check and make sure it will work on your system), the kit includes everything you need for installation, along with instructions, and it is pre-programmed for quick installation. It was easy to install with simply connecting the two terminals to the TH and TH/TP terminals of the millivolt valve. Pairing: The manufacturer has defaulted programming, simply insert the batteries, slide the receiver switch into remote position, and from the remote you can turn the fireplace on/off, along with pairing the remote. Safety: Not to be used on systems with voltages above 24V AC/DC and 1 amp current. This is a nice quality kit, it was easy to assemble/install, instructions were clear, and it’s a good value for the money.

Great replacement for my old one.

This has everything my old one had, PLUS i can plug into a nearby receptacle and I will not need battery's. No more corroded battery's in the warm weather when gas logs are not used.

Simple Upgrade That Made My Fireplace Feel Modern Again

This remote control kit was exactly what I needed to bring my gas fireplace into the present. Installation was straightforward—just connected it to the millivolt valve terminals and it paired up without any drama. If you’re comfortable doing basic wiring, it’s a very manageable DIY project. The thermostat mode is the real game changer. Instead of constantly flipping the fireplace on and off, I can set the temperature and let it regulate itself. It keeps the room comfortable without overheating, which makes it feel much more efficient. The countdown timer is also a nice touch for evenings when I want it to shut off automatically.I really appreciate the flexibility with power options. Being able to use an AC adapter instead of constantly replacing batteries is a big plus and saves money over time. The receiver’s battery compartment is easy to access as well, which makes maintenance simple if you do go the battery route. The remote itself feels solid, the screen is clear, and the child lock adds peace of mind. For the price, this delivers excellent functionality and quality. It’s a cost-effective way to upgrade your fireplace without replacing the entire system.
